Here are a few helpful links to help you with Bible study, and getting to know about Lutheran Christianity a bit better.
As far as Bible versions go, there are many versions because the Bible wasn’t originally written in English. Therefore, different translations will have different nuances and styles of language. Certain translations are more literal than others, while others are easier to understand. I tend to prefer the ESV for most study as it is one of the most literal and detailed translations, however, (if like me, you don’t speak or read Hebrew and Greek) it can be helpful to read several different translations of the same verse for clarity and greater understanding. The disadvantage to the ESV is that it written to a 12th grade / beginning college reading and vocabulary level. The NIV is for the most part a solid translation that is easier for middle and high school age students to read and comprehend. Bible Gateway is a great resource to use to compare versions without buying 20 different Bibles.
